Frequently Asked Questions

What information do I need to provide about my payload?

You'll need to share details such as payload size and mass, power requirements, any hazardous materials or propellants, environmental sensitivities, and what you want to measure or accomplish during the flight. Our team uses this information to evaluate compatibility and safety before approving a payload for flight.

What kinds of payloads can fly on BLK3?

BLK3 can accommodate a wide variety of payloads up to 135 kg. This includes scientific experiments, technology demonstrations, sensors, avionics, electronics, biological samples, student projects, and commercial hardware. All payloads must meet safety and integration requirements and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

What is carbon fiber composite?

Carbon fiber composite is an advanced lightweight material made from carbon fibers embedded in a resin matrix. It offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, which allows BLK3 to carry more propellant and payload while keeping the rocket structure as light and efficient as possible.

How long will my payload be in microgravity?

BLK3 is designed for approximately 2.5 minutes of microgravity at the peak of its trajectory at an altitude of approximately 100–110 km. This is a meaningful window for experiments that require sustained low-gravity conditions.

How do I get started if I want to fly a payload?

Start by completing the Payload Questionnaire. Our team will review your submission and follow up to discuss compatibility, mission requirements, and next steps. You can also explore the Payload Calculator to get a sense of pricing. Hardware returned from Spaceport America is back in your hands in minutes after landing.

Is EXOS FAA licensed for launch operations?

Yes. EXOS Aerospace holds an FAA Part 431 launch license for BLK3 and is actively transitioning to Part 450. We are one of only three FAA-licensed reusable suborbital launch operators in the United States.
