― オックスフォード大学発の研究に基づいたデータ駆動かつ創業チームに着目した新たなスタートアップ創出モデルの実装へ ―
Black Belt Global Venture Studio（以下、BBV）は、東京都のスタートアップ支援事業「SUTEAM」採択プログラムとして、国内外からの70社を超える応募の中から、Pre-Seed～Series Aまでの12社のスタートアップを採択したことをお知らせいたします。
採択スタートアップは、BBVの支援のもと東京で事業創出に取り組み、日本での新規立ち上げまたは海外技術の日本市場ローカライズを通じて事業を展開します。
BBVは、スタートアップの創出から成長までを一体的に支援するベンチャー創出プラットフォームです。オックスフォード大学発の「Science of Startups」の研究に基づき、21,000社以上のデータを活用して、創業初期からチーム構成や意思決定を科学的に設計し、成功確率の高いスタートアップ創出を目指します。さらに、Japan Tech Venturesの投資・事業開発の知見と、Innovation Dojoのグローバルネットワークを組み合わせることで、有望なスタートアップの創出と成長を実行面から支援します。従来のプロダクトや市場中心の評価に対し、BBVは「創業チーム」に着目したアプローチにより、より再現性の高い投資・協業機会の創出を可能にします。
採択スタートアップ進捗の一例として、海外スタートアップではChipmetrics（フィンランド）が資金調達や東京拠点設立に向けた具体的な進展を見せており、日本市場での事業構築に対する高い実行力が期待されています。
一方、国内スタートアップでは主にプレシード段階の企業が中心となる中、Performance DNA Platform（日本）のように特許を保有し、グローバル展開を視野に入れた取り組みを進めているチームも含まれており、創業チームの特性や将来性の観点から高いポテンシャルが期待されています。

本プログラムには、AI、半導体、宇宙、ヘルスケア、クラウド、音楽、教育など多様な分野から、グローバルに展開可能なスタートアップが選出されました。
AdjunctX（米国）
AIを活用し、知識や経験を必要な人に届ける学習・知識マッチングプラットフォームを開発。専門家の知識が個人の中にとどまり、学びたい人とつながりにくいという課題に対し、学習者のリクエストに応じて直接専門家とつながれる仕組みを提供し、学習機会の拡大と知識の活用を実現。
BistroTech（日本）
衛星データを活用し、気候・環境インテリジェンスを提供するプラットフォームを開発。分散した地球・宇宙データが複雑で活用しにくい課題に対し、JAXA等のオープンデータを収集・解析し、モバイルで利用可能な形に変換することで、ESG評価や気候リスク分析に活用できる実用的なインサイトとツールを提供。
Chipmetrics（フィンランド）
半導体製造向けに、従来は測定困難だった3D構造内部のパラメータを可視化する測定チップおよびウェハを提供。3D半導体や薄膜プロセスにおける品質管理とプロセス最適化、歩留まり向上を支援。
Clowak Innovations（インド）
犬や猫向けに、水に混ぜるだけで使える自然由来のオーラルケアソリューションを開発。歯磨きの負担や継続の難しさにより歯周病や全身疾患リスクが高まる課題に対し、ラウリン酸の抗菌作用によりプラークの原因に直接作用し、ストレスなく日常的な口腔ケアを実現。
Exos Aerospace Systems & Technologies（米国）
宇宙向けに、低価格かつ再利用可能なサブオービタルロケットの開発・運用を手がける。宇宙開発企業や政府機関の高コスト・長期化・試験機会不足といった課題に対し、高頻度な飛行試験とデータ取得により、開発期間の短縮と信頼性向上を実現。
EyeVita（日本）
スマートフォン装着型の眼底カメラとAI診断を組み合わせ、一般医でも眼底検査を可能にする医療ソリューションを開発。眼科医不足や診断機会の偏在により失明リスクの高い疾患の早期発見が遅れるという課題に対し、低コストかつ簡便な検査とAI診断により、早期発見を実現。
Mezusphere（日本）
クラウドサービスの構築・運用を簡単にする次世代プラットフォームを開発。スタートアップや開発チームが直面するインフラ構築の手間やセキュリティ確保の難しさに対し、認証や通信機能を一体化した基盤により、短時間で安全かつ拡張性の高い環境構築を実現。
Mostro（フランス）
アーティストがトークンを発行し、ファンと直接つながる音楽プラットフォームを提供。アーティストが十分な収益を得られず、ファンも直接支援・発見しにくいという課題に対し、トークンを活用した資金調達とコミュニティ形成を可能にし、収益機会の拡大と関係性の強化を実現。
MotionsCloud（ドイツ）
AI画像認識を活用し、保険・モビリティ・航空業界における検査・損害査定プロセスを自動化。IoTや外部データと連携した画像分析と自動撮影により、主観的な手作業を排除し、迅速かつ標準化されたデータ駆動の検査体制を実現。
Nurselink（日本）
アプリを活用したナースコールシステムを開発。患者の要件が事前に伝わらず非効率な対応が生じる課題に対し、要望の可視化と優先順位管理により、看護業務の効率化と対応漏れ防止を実現。
Performance DNA Platform（日本）
音楽奏者の演奏時の身体動作をデータ化し、「推し」の技術を再現・習得できるAI音楽学習プラットフォーム。音楽学習において身体感覚やコツが可視化されず上達が難しく、初心者の多くが挫折する課題に対し、演奏者の身体知をデータとして可視化・共有することで、新しい学習体験を提供し、習得効率の向上とスキルの資産化を実現。
StructAI（オーストラリア）
Graph AIを活用し、自動車のNVH（騒音・振動・乗り心地）設計を自動化する設計支援プラットフォームを開発。構造設計や原因分析、設計変更プロセスを高速化し、開発期間の短縮と品質向上、コスト削減を実現。

ポール・X・マッカーシー教授は、ファビアン・ブレーズマン博士とともに、オックスフォード大学の「Science of Startups Initiative」の共同創設者です。同研究は、性格特性とキャリア成功に関する10年以上にわたる研究を基盤としており、世界21,000社以上のスタートアップデータを活用して、新規事業の成功要因を解明しています。
主な研究成果として、創業者の性格特性が事業の成功を強く予測すること、また多様な性格特性を持つ創業チームは最大で10倍高い成功確率を持つことが示されています。これらの研究は『Nature Scientific Reports』に掲載され、10万回以上ダウンロードされるとともに、『The Times』『Forbes』『The Economist』など主要メディアでも取り上げられています。

Tokyo's Black Belt Venture Studio Selects 12 Global Startups for its foundation cohort
— Backed by Oxford University research, the Tokyo-based studio is pioneering a data-driven, founder-centric approach to global venture creation —
Black Belt Global Venture Studio (BBV), selected under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s startup support initiative “SUTEAM,” is pleased to announce the selection of 12 startups ranging from Pre-Seed to Series A, chosen from over 70 applications from Japan and abroad.
All selected startups will build ventures in Tokyo, either by launching new businesses from the ground up in Japan or by localizing and reconstructing proven technologies and business models for the Japanese market.
BBV is a venture creation platform that supports startups from inception through to scale. Drawing on the University of Oxford-born Science of Startups research, BBV leverages insights from over 21,000 startups to scientifically design founding teams and decision-making processes from the outset, aiming to create startups with a higher probability of success.
In addition, BBV combines investment and venture-building expertise from Japan Tech Ventures with access to a global startup network through Innovation Dojo, enabling hands-on support in building and scaling high-potential ventures.
While traditional approaches have focused on product and market, BBV introduces a founder-team-centric model, creating more reproducible opportunities for investment and strategic collaboration.
The program brings together a well-balanced cohort of startups at different stages of development. Among the overseas startups, Chipmetrics (Finland) has demonstrated tangible progress toward fundraising and the establishment of its Tokyo entity, reflecting strong execution capability and commitment to building its business in the Japanese market.
Meanwhile, while many of the domestic startups are at a pre-seed stage, teams such as Performance DNA Platform (Japan), which holds patents and is actively pursuing global expansion, demonstrate strong potential from the perspective of founding team characteristics and future growth.

The program has selected globally scalable startups across diverse sectors including AI, semiconductors, space, healthcare, cloud, music, and education.
AdjunctX (USA)
Develops an AI-powered learning and knowledge-matching platform that connects expertise with those who need it. Addresses the challenge of expert knowledge remaining siloed and difficult to access by enabling learners to connect directly with experts through on-demand requests, expanding learning opportunities and knowledge utilization.
BistroTech (Japan)
Develops a platform that delivers climate and environmental intelligence using satellite data. Addresses the challenge of fragmented and complex Earth and space data by collecting and processing open data (e.g., from JAXA) into mobile-ready formats, providing actionable insights and tools for ESG evaluation and climate risk analysis.
Chipmetrics (Finland)
Provides measurement chips and wafers that enable visualization of previously unmeasurable parameters inside complex 3D semiconductor structures. Supports quality control, process optimization, and yield improvement in advanced semiconductor and thin-film manufacturing.
Clowak Innovations (India)
Develops a natural, water-mix oral care solution for dogs and cats. Addresses challenges in maintaining consistent dental care, leading to periodontal and systemic health risks by using the antibacterial properties of lauric acid to target plaque at its source, enabling stress-free daily oral care.
Exos Aerospace Systems & Technologies (USA)
Develops and operates low-cost, reusable suborbital rockets for space applications. Addresses challenges faced by space companies and government agencies such as high costs, long development cycles, and limited testing opportunities by providing high-frequency flight testing and data collection, enabling faster development and improved reliability.
EyeVita (Japan)
Develops a medical solution combining a smartphone-based fundus camera with AI diagnostics, enabling general practitioners to perform eye examinations. Addresses delayed detection of vision-threatening diseases due to ophthalmologist shortages and uneven access by providing low-cost, easy-to-use screening and AI-based diagnosis.
Mezusphere (Japan)
Develops a next-generation platform that simplifies cloud service development and operations. Addresses the complexity of infrastructure setup and security management faced by startups and developers by providing an integrated foundation for authentication and communication, enabling fast, secure, and scalable deployment.
Mostro (France)
Provides a music platform where artists can issue tokens and connect directly with fans. Addresses the challenges of limited artist monetization and weak fan engagement by enabling token-based funding and community building, expanding revenue opportunities and strengthening fan relationships.
MotionsCloud (Germany)
Leverages AI-powered image recognition to automate inspection and claims assessment processes across insurance, mobility, and aviation industries. By integrating IoT and external data with automated image capture and analysis, it eliminates subjective manual work and enables fast, standardized, data-driven inspections.
Nurselink (Japan)
Develops an app-based nurse call system. Addresses inefficiencies caused by the lack of context in traditional nurse calls by enabling request visualization and prioritization, improving nursing workflow efficiency and reducing missed responses.
Performance DNA Platform (Japan)
Develops an AI-powered music learning platform that captures and analyzes performers’ physical movements, enabling users to reproduce and learn their favorite artists’ techniques. Addresses the difficulty of improving musical skills due to unvisualized tacit knowledge, leading to high dropout rates, by transforming performance know-how into data, shifting learning from passive observation to active skill acquisition while enabling skill monetization.
StructAI (Australia)
Develops a design support platform using Graph AI to automate automotive NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) engineering. Accelerates structural design, root-cause analysis, and design iteration, reducing development time while improving quality and lowering costs.

The event will feature a keynote by Paul X. McCarthy, Co-founder of the Science of Startups at the University of Oxford, alongside pitch presentations from all 12 selected startups. Through these pitches, attendees will gain insight into ventures developed using a scientific approach to team design and venture creation, and explore potential investment and partnership opportunities.

Professor Paul X. McCarthy
In collaboration with Dr. Fabian Braesemann, Professor Paul X. McCarthy is cofounder of University of Oxford’s Science of Startups Initiative. Backed by a decade of research on personality and career success, the lab uses data from over 21,000 global startups to uncover exactly what makes a new venture succeed. A key finding is that founder personality traits strongly predict venture success, and specific, personality-diverse founding teams have up to ten times better odds of succeeding. The lab’s research has been published in Nature Scientific Reports, downloaded over 100,000 times, and featured in major media outlets including The Times, Forbes, and The Economist. As a research partner of BBV, Professor McCarthy and his research colleagues at Oxford, UNSW Sydney, UTS and University of Melbourne are supporting the development of practical tools and methodologies that enable entrepreneurs, corporates, and investors to make better decisions based at the critical early stages of venture formation based on robust evidence-based insights.
